Throughout the month of July, Armada FC forward Derek Gebhard led the way offensively for his club. As the Spring Season winded down, Gebhard notched two pivotal goals, bringing his 2017 total to four.
On July 1st at Hodges Stadium, the Armada FC needed a goal late to break the scoreless deadlock. In the 79th minute, defender Kalen Ryden found Gebhard open right in front of the net for the easy tap in goal. Gebhard’s goal would hold on to be the difference maker in the match.
A week later, the club hosted gritty Caribbean rival Puerto Rico FC. As the match headed into stoppage time and down a goal, the Armada FC needed another heroic moment from the Maryland native. In the 92nd minute, midfielder Charles Eloundou beat two defenders to find Gebhard open for the equalizer.
As the Fall Season began, Gebhard picked up right where he left off. During the first match of the Robert Palmer era, the 21-year-old’s speedy and agility forced a foul by San Francisco in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Gebhard’s effort resulted in an Armada FC goal, giving the club an early lead at home.
The forward is in his third year with the Armada FC and is already having a record-setting year. As the club pushes towards the playoffs, Gebhard’s talent will be needed to continue to win matches.
