NEW AND POWERFUL

SIMA Aguilas joined the Premier Development League (PDL) in 2017 and soared to an 11W-2L-1D record and claimed the Southeast Division Champion title. In playoffs, the team fell 4-3 in its first match against Mississippi Brilla FC.

The Soccer Institute of Montverde Academy (SIMA) established the PDL team in 2017 to offer its student athletes and alumni the opportunity to further their skills through training and playing professionally. As one of the top-ranked schools in boys’ varsity soccer both in Florida and the southern region of the United States, the Armada FC will be facing tough competition Wednesday.

This is the first-ever match for SIMA in the U.S. Open Cup. The team earned a spot after earning the 2017 PDL Division Champion title. The 2018 PDL season will begin on May 12 for SIMA.

PLAY-IN ROUND REWIND

The Jacksonville Armada FC advanced to the First Round of the U.S. Open Cup after a 2-1 victory over The Villages SC Sunday night in Jacksonville. A 9th minute goal by Ciarán Kilduff put the Armada FC ahead early in the match. A nice build-up from Derek Gebhard, Yuma, and then Michael Melvin led to cross into the box where Kilduff was waiting to head it in.

The Villages equalized in the 59th minute, but then Wesley Charpie capitalized on a rebound off of Mechack Jérôme’s free kick to put the home team back ahead. This was the second goal for Charpie this year, with his first being at the NPSL season opener for the Armada FC on April 28. The goals are the defender’s first of his professional career also.

NEXT UP IN THE CUP

If the Armada FC can pull off a victory in Montverde on Wednesday, the team will host the Tampa Bay Rowdies back in Jacksonville on Wednesday, May 16. The U.S. Open Cup Second Round match will kick off at 7 p.m. at Southern Oak Stadium.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Armada FC travels to South Florida to continue the NPSL season on Saturday. The second match of the season for the team comes against Boca Raton Football Club at Atlantic High School in Delray Beach, Fla. at 6 p.m.
