The Haitian national team has called up Jacksonville Armada FC defender Mechack Jérôme for a friendly match at the end of the month.

Jérôme will leave for training camp on May 21 to prepare for the match against Lionel Messi’s squad, Argentina, on May 29 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"It will be a great experience for me go play against players like Di María and Messi. This is one in a lifetime experience. I'm truly blessed and looking forward to this match against Argentina," said Jérôme.

He will return two days after the match on May 31, missing only one Armada FC match against Miami United FC on May 27.

Jérôme was most recently called up by Haiti on Nov. 3, 2017 for two friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Equatorial Guinea. The 28-year-old defender has totaled 65 caps, the most of any player on Haiti’s current roster.

Armada FC Head Coach Mark Lowry said Jérome is one of the best center backs playing in the country, and his skills are second to none.

“To compete and play in games of this caliber, against world-class players such as Messi and Aguero, is a credit to him and the work he does,” Lowry said.

Jérôme first played with the Haitian national team in 2007 at the CONCACAF U-17 tournament and FIFA U-17 World Cup before making his debut on the senior team in 2008.  He contributed to the team during the 2008 Caribbean Championship, and helped his country qualify for 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Jérôme has appeared in 63 games during his three seasons with Armada FC. He completed nearly 83% of his passes while starting in all 32 matches last year, and finished first in the league in clearances with 172. His high level of play earned him a spot in the NASL’s 2017 Best XI.
