OPEN CUP HISTORY

The Armada FC will host Miami United FC in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night at Southern Oak Stadium on the campus of Jacksonville University.

This will be the second consecutive year the two teams will meet in the annual tournament. The Armada FC defeated Miami United FC 2-1 in last year’s Second Round match before going on to lose 1-0 to the Charleston Battery in the Third Round.

This is the first time Miami United FC has advanced to the Third Round of the Open Cup, while Jacksonville’s best effort came in 2016 when the team made it to the Fourth Round, but lost 1-0 to Orlando City.

THE FLEET KEEPS SAILING

Wednesday’s match provides a chance for Jacksonville to pick up its fifth consecutive win, and fourth in this year’s Open Cup. Although the Armada FC advanced to the Fourth Round in 2016, it has never won more than one match in a single Open Cup tournament.

UNITED LOOKS TO SHAKE OFF LOSS

Miami looks to bounce back from its first loss of the year against Palm Beach United last Sunday. Miami fought through the rain, and finished its 2-1 home loss with only nine men on the field after two players were ejected from receiving red cards. Even with the loss, Miami United FC still sits at the top of the NPSL Sunshine Conference with 11 points.

MECHACK’S BACK

Good news comes to the Armada FC this week after finding out defender Mechack Jérôme will be available for Wednesday’s match. Jérôme was to leave for Haiti May 21 to prepare for an international friendly against Argentina on May 29, but will now stay with the Armada FC through the Wednesday’s Open Cup game.

BECKIE OUT

The news of Jérôme was even more important to the Armada FC defense after Drew Beckie was suspended from Wednesday’s Open Cup game. Beckie will be ineligible for the match after receiving his third consecutive yellow card of the tournament against the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the Second Round match. Beckie will return for the Fourth Round if the Armada FC wins Wednesday.

LOOKING AHEAD

The winner of Wednesday’s match will move on to the Fourth Round of the U.S. Open Cup. U.S. Soccer will conduct the Draw for Fourth Round on Thursday, May 24 at 11 a.m. EST in Chicago. The Armada FC will resume NPSL play on the road Sunday against Miami United FC for the second time in a five-day stretch.
