Armada FC U-23 Score Two Late Goals to Extend Winning Streak

This past Saturday the Jacksonville Armada FC U-23 made the journey to Alabama to battle bottom of the conference AFC Mobile. This was the third all-time meeting between the two clubs, and the Armada’s sixth match of the 2022 NPSL season.

From the first whistle both teams came out of the gate with aggression and ready to get physical.

A chance fell to the Armada early in the match, but the eventual shot was tipped over the bar by the Mobile goalkeeper.

Unfortunately in the 33rd minute Jacksonville's top goal scorer Eduardo Coimbra had to be helped off of the field due to an injury, forcing Head Coach Tommy Krizanovic to make a premature substitution.

The rest of the first half the Armada retained most of the possession but were unable to capitalize on it. AFC Mobile would pick up two yellow cards in the opening half of play, and Jacksonville would go into the locker room all tied up at 0-0.

After the break, the Armada U-23’s attack continued to apply pressure on the Azalia's back line. Both teams made plenty of second half substitutions to get fresh legs onto the pitch to keep up with the aggressive pace of the game.

In the 71st minute the Jacksonville Armada caught their first break, Giancarlo Vaccaro would crash the goal after a bad touch from Mobile's goalkeeper and put the ball into the back of the net.

In the dying embers of the match Giancarlo Vaccaro would find Alex Ierides streaking down the sideline, and the final chance of the match would be put away. The center referee called the game not too long after the goal, with your Jacksonville Armada FC U-23 coming away with a 2-0 victory.

"Tonight was a hard fought win. Very proud of the players and staff for their continued hard work and effort. We needed the little things to go right tonight and they did. Players stepped up individually when they needed to and that was enough for us to get points. Not to concede and to score ourselves were our main objectives and in the end we got what we came for. A lot of respect to a well organized Mobile team. The scores don’t always reflect the performances and we look forward to watching them more and hosting them soon," said former player and second year Head Coach Tommy Krizanovic.

AFC Mobile will once again have an opportunity to try their luck against the Armada when they head east to Duval County on Saturday, July 2.

This coming Wednesday the Jacksonville Armada will take on instate rivals Tallahassee SC at 7pm EST in the third home match of the season.
