Jacksonville Armada FC U-23 Remain Undefeated After 1-0 Win

Armada extend winning streak to eight games in a row
Jun 27, 2022

This past Saturday the Jacksonville Armada FC U-23 made the journey to Foley, Alabama to play instate rival Pensacola FC. This was the fourth all-time meeting between the two clubs, and the Armada’s ninth match of the 2022 NPSL season.

The weather was not cooperative for the start of the match, and after a two hour delay the game was ready to kickoff.

From the first whistle both teams came out of the gate with aggression and ready to attack, although the field conditions were not optimal.

Early in the match the Armada pressed the opposition’s backline and caused Pensacola to make several mistakes, however Jacksonville was not able to take advantage of them.

In the sixteenth minute, Alex Ierides found himself inside the opposition’s box and squared the ball to Reed Davis. Davis would take a touch and bury the chance into the back of the net to put the Armada up 1-0.

Both teams would trade multiple shots on goal, but neither could capitalize off of their opportunities before halftime. The Jacksonville Armada would go into the locker room up by just one goal.

In the beginning of the second half, Reed Davis along with a Pensacola defender would receive a yellow card. Both teams made various second half substitutions to try and take advantage of the tiring legs on the pitch.

In goal, Dominic Dominguez was kept busy all evening, and came up with numerous critical saves to keep the clean sheet.

Jacksonville held on to their one goal lead to extend their winning streak to eight games in a row, and remain undefeated in the Gulf Coast Conference.

“Tonight was a tough one,” said Head Coach Tommy Krizanovic. “A lot of things we did not anticipate or planned for came up and it showed. One thing this group is doing well however is that even when things aren’t going our way, they still find a way to get the result and to be successful in this league you need to have that. We are now focused on our Wednesday match and have already started preparations”.

With this past weekend’s win the Jacksonville Armada FC U-23 secured a spot in the Gulf Coast Conference playoffs, and will be able to clinch the regular season title if this week's results in the conference go in their favor. The Armada are also first place in the NPSL's overall standings out of 95 teams across the United States.

The Armada U-23's penultimate home match of the regular season will take place this Wednesday, June 29 at 7pm when they face off against the New Orleans Jesters at Jangro Stadium. Jacksonville’s final home game of the regular season will be played Saturday, July 2 at 7pm versus AFC Mobile. Tickets are FREE and available for reservation on Eventbrite.
