Yesterday afternoon Savannah Clovers FC announced that former Jacksonville Armada FC U-23 player, Alex Ierides, has signed a NISA contract with the Club. Ierides, a native of Nicosia, Cyprus, joined Memphis Tigers men's soccer team in 2018 as a sophomore. In his sophomore season, he started every match and scored three goals while leading the squad with five assists. In his junior year, he played in 16 matches, starting three and scored three goals with two assists. Prior to joining Memphis, he played club soccer for Apoel F.C. in Cyprus, winning five championships and participating in the UEFA Youth Champions League. He was also a member of the Cyprus U17 and U19 National Team. Additionally, he played his freshman season at Coastal Carolina, scoring two goals and logging an assist in 21 appearances.

During his time with the Armada, Alex proved himself to be a dedicated and skilled athlete, consistently demonstrating a high level of flair and leadership. Alex Ierides spent the past two summers with the Jacksonville Armada FC U-23 of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). During his tenure with the team Ierides tallied 19 appearances and netted 18 goals in the process. Armada FC U-23 Head Coach, Tommy Krizanovic, had this to say about Alex’s departure: “Another one of our players has been given an opportunity to become a Pro and he took it. Alex has been a joy to work with and has been a leader on and off the field for the last two years he’s been with us. His work ethic and determination show that it’s not only talent that you need at the next level. We are proud of Alex and excited for him to start his pro career close by with a good organization.

When asked how the Jacksonville Armada helped him on his journey to becoming a professional Alex replied, “I have always wanted to become a professional soccer player, it was my dream since I was a kid. Playing for Jacksonville Armada the past two summers was a big and important part of my career. My experience with the Armada definitely made me a better player, a better person and played a big role in helping me sign my first professional contract in the United States. Even though Armada is competing in a semi-pro league, the environment couldn’t have been any more professional. I was surrounded by excellent players from all over the world which made every day at practice very competitive and challenging.”

Ierides also added, “The coaching staff and front office is top class! The people in those positions are people that know and genuinely love the game and that’s a big factor for the team’s success and growth every year. I’m very grateful for the opportunity that Armada gave me.”

When talking about his ambitions at his new club Alex stated, “My goal for the upcoming year is to have a key role in helping my team Savannah Clovers have a great first professional season and make a statement in the league. As a forward, I want to have many goal contributions and hopefully be in a good position to win the league."
