JACKSONVILLE ARMADA FC DEFEAT TALLAHASSEE SC AT HODGES STADIUM

Armada victorious in first home game at Hodges Stadium

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Last evening, Tallahassee SC made the three hour journey east across I-10 to face off against Jacksonville Armada U-23. This was the sixth all-time meeting between the clubs in the National Premier League’s Gulf Coast Conference, with the first game of the 2023 season ending in a 1-1 draw.

 

As soon as the center referee blew the first whistle, the Armada were on the attack and putting pressure on the Battle Lions’ defense. It would not take long for Jacksonville to find their first goal of the night. In the 10th minute Eduardo Coimbra made a streaking run in behind the Tallahassee backline. He then squared the ball across the box to an incoming Angus Taylor who would take his dribble around the keeper and finish his chance, putting the Armada ahead 1-0. It would be Taylor’s third goal of the season.

 

In the 42nd minute Jacksonville found the back of the net for a second time, This time by way of Eduardo Coimbra. Giancarlo Vaccro played a ball into the box, and Coimbra easily slotted the ball into the back of the net to put the Armada up 2-0 going into halftime.The action continued into the second half of play. Tallahassee SC player John Fitzgerald and Armada U-23 captain Mason Tunbridge would each receive a yellow card. 

 

In the 55th minute Ayrton Redmore would be the first Armada player subbed out of the match due to injury. Jacksonville Head Coach Tommy Krizanovic continued to make substitutions to keep up the high tempo press. Tallahassee would score their one and only goal of the match in the 90th minute from a corner kick header. After the four minutes of added time, Jacksonville Armada FC U-23 would defeat the Battle Lions of Tallahassee 2-1.

 

Captain Mason Tunbridge praised his team as well as his opponents saying, “I think we did well to get two goals up, but the game could have gone either way. They were a great side, much improved from last season. We stayed disciplined, stayed firm, and held on till the end.”
